May 1st I head to the Missouri Breaks near Jordan to help the Piersons with their spring, summer and fall work- doctoring, trailing, gathering, sorting, working and shipping their cattle as well as gathering, training, and weaning their horses and colts. It is beautiful and rugged country and the riding can get pretty western. Good clean fun. With access to lots of cattle, the training of reined cowhorses continues as well. I take in a limited number of outside horses.

I have left my horses with Patrick in the Spring for a few weeks the past couple of years to tune them up after winter pasture. I am very impressed with his horse sense and honesty: he knows how far to push each horse and is straight with me about their abilities and limitations. He has cautioned me and tempered my expectations about my cutting horse who I treat like a ranch trail horse. I appreciate this honesty as I have kids who ride as well. I recently bought a horse from Patrick who is everything promised and more. The most important thing to me is that I trust Patrick. His obvious respect and understanding for the horse he is working with is refreshing and inspiring. Patrick’s sense of humor is a plus!”

It is the best of training grounds and gives a horse real jobs to develope into a well rounded partner.
